Auf d'Nacht, Herr Direktor!
Short Description
Beside his astonishing career as one of the most important actors in the German-speaking world with an European presence Michael Heltau has started many years ago a second professional way: his own creation of a one-man-recital which is always totally sold out. With little gestures, with a play of light and shadow, with his kind of amazement and elegance he is able to imagine colourful figures transforming the gossamer of great little texts into a flying carpet of fantasy. Michael Heltau listens to the heartbeat of chansons and songs, he makes them sound as if they were written only for him in spite of having them heard a hundred times. Within his programs he admits space for yearning and joy, melancholy and laughter. His interpretation of songs by Jacques Brel is legendary, and each new program bears surprises. In this book full of pictures and notes one may discover much about this exceptional actor, about him and about the power necessary to make all this seem so easy and effortless. The title is an old stage proverb “Auf d’Nacht, Herr Direktor!” The evening when the curtain rises . . . then it counts . . .
